Submission Tips
· Know the genre you’re writing in
· Don’t submit genres RBE doesn’t want
· Grab attention from the start
· Write intense action and gripping plot
· Make your character(s) interesting
· Skip the gratuitous violence and sex
· Don’t add the fantasy elements as an afterthought
· Take it easy on the horror
· Use just the right amount of humor . . . not over much or over done
· Write stories that have unique takes on situations
· Stick to your chosen point-of-view (POV)
· Follow the guidelines for queries and submissions
o While RBE will never issue a rejection for simply ignoring instructions or failing to follow the suggested procedures, any submission that does so makes the editor’s job more difficult.
o Want quick acknowledgments and accurate communications? Follow submission guidelines so it’s easy to categorize and locate your work.
o Want speedy response times? Follow layout and formatting guidelines so it’s easier to read your work and read it without any misunderstandings.
o Want to make it easier to be more critical of your work? Don’t follow the guidelines.
