Queries
RBE requests that all authors seeking publication through Rogue Blades Entertainment submit a query letter. Queries should not be more than 10 paragraphs long and should contain:
1. A factual description of the work to include
a. genre
b. total word count (rounded to the nearest 100)
c. if verse, total number of poems (or line count if an epic)
d. if a collection, total number of pieces separated by word count (short story, novella, or novelette), and total percentage of unpublished material
e. if an anthology, total number of pieces and authors, and whether authors have been paid or not
f. if a special project, description of project particulars (e.g., number of pieces of art)
g. if previously published or simultaneously submitted
2. An explanation of what qualifies the work as heroic adventure and what interests you in being part of the “Rogue Blades Presents” series
3. A summation of the work in no more than three paragraphs and including
4. A synopsis of the entire work (e.g., book one to book twelve), and
5. If a series or multiple book proposal, a synopsis of book one, and
6. A character arc for both the protagonist and the primary antagonist and any other significant recurring character(s)
7. If submitting a work that contains a previously published serial character or world of your creation, a listing of up to 5 works containing said character or world and including the publication titles and dates thereof
8. Any publication or personal experience pertaining to the publication of the work in question only. Examples:
a. If you are submitting an historical adventure set in ancient Egypt and have been on an archeological dig there
b. If you are submitting an action/adventure tale set among the mountain peoples of Afghanistan and you have been or are still fighting there
c. If you are submitting our genres and are a fencing instructor, historical reenactor, space-age bounty hunter, sorcerer . . . anything that has to do with our genres!
d. RBE does not want listings of previous publication credits if they do not pertain to the work you are submitting or the genres RBE publishes; nor do we want to know about psychology degrees, self-employment histories, or success stories equally not related to what is being submitted
9. Any marketing platform or experience you have and/or are prepared to do on behalf of your work. In addition to allowing you to demonstrate the size and buying power of your established fan base, this is your opportunity to further prove the marketability of your serial character/world by providing evidence of past performance.
10. A statement regarding which well-known author’s works you consider your work closest to (e.g., ‘Fans of Alexandre Dumas will enjoy my story!’ or ‘I feel my writing is most closely like that of Glenn Cook.’).
