Manuscript Format
There really is no such thing as the magical be-all-and-end-all manuscript format. When submitting via email, the wonders of modern technology allow the editor to make the manuscript look any which way desired. It is, however, in the author’s best interest to make this as easy as possible, so please attempt to adhere to the following:
· Cover letters are not necessary. Simply include contact information in the body of the submitting email and on the first page of the manuscript
· Font should be easily readable, something like this 12-point Times New Roman
· Keep all italics, bold, underlining, and any other special formatting intact
· Maintain 1″ (inch) margins all around
· Line spacing of 1.5 or double
· Tabbed first lines of paragraphs
· No additional line spacing between paragraphs
· Scene/Section breaks or transitions should be simply noted by ### or ***
· Place “The End” at the end so that we know we have the entire manuscript
· Utilize the header on every page to display the author’s last name, abbreviated story title, and page number, such as WALTZ / MY STORY / 14
· On the first page
o Contact Information – In the upper left corner, left-justified and single-spaced (these are the only lines in the entire manuscript that are single-spaced) include the full name (the one that’s being paid), address, telephone number, email address, and word count (rounded to nearest 100)
o Title – Centered just above the middle of the page
o ‘by’ – Centered just beneath the title
o Name/Pen Name – Centered just beneath ‘by’
o Body – Begin the story two lines down and left-justified
Print Submissions:
RBE prefers all authors join the modern era and utilize the advantages of technology. Do not send manuscript hardcopies to RBE unless mutually agreed upon. We understand that there are extenuating circumstances that sometimes make this necessary, and we will deal with such issues individually and when they occur.
