Challenge! The Competition Anthologies
Challenge!
the competition anthology of heroic tales
- Challenge! anthologies are contest-based themed anthologies with PRIZES of publication, money, and critique from professionals in the publishing industry!
- Challenge! competitions will be run by RBE as both prize-winning writing contests and RBE fundraisers.
- Challenge! themes will be based upon the cover art and title of the anthology.
- Contestants will pay US$10.00 to submit one story of 3,000 to 9,000 words.
- All fee monies received will be divided between RBE fundraising and Challenge! prize amounts, and the Challenge! cover artist.
- A minimum of thirty (30) submissions must be received for the contest to take place. If the submission period closes without reaching 3o contestants, all entries and monies will be returned in full.
Challenge! anthology cover art will be displayed on the RBE website for two weeks prior to the opening of submissions, which will run for an additional twelve weeks. Besides being announced here on the RBE website, the contest will also be announced via Ralan.com, on any forums RBE has a presence on, and anywhere else appropriate across the web. Once the minimum number of submissions has been received, submissions will be vetted by the RBE Prose Acquisitions Editors and voted upon by a panel of three judges (to include the cover artist, a non-submitting author, and an outside editor or publisher). Final determinations will be made by RBE alone. The top 12 stories will be selected for inclusion in the Challenge! anthology in both print and electronic formats. All winning authors will receive at least one copy of the anthology!
- 2010 Prizes consist of the following:
- Top 15 stories and authors will be listed on the RBE website
- The Published 12, including the Top 3
- 3 Honorable Mentions
- The Published 12, including the Top 3

- 1st – $75.00
- 2nd – $50.00
- 3rd – $25.00
- Top 15 stories and authors will be listed on the RBE website
- Prize winners will be announced around approximately two months after the close of submissions, and the Challenge! anthology will be published another two months after that.
RBE publishes only heroic adventure, but Challenge! anthologies are not restricted to just works of speculative fiction. Works found in any particular Challenge! anthology could include all genres of heroic adventure literature (such as sword & sorcery, dark fantasy, Westerns, hard-boiled crime, mysteries, action, thrillers, and espionage).
