Upcoming RBE anthology projects

A little something for those interested in writing and/or submitting tales of heroic adventure to upcoming RBE anthologies:

  • RBE purchased the Clash of Steel series of anthologies from Carnifex Press
    • CoS will be joining the “Rogue Blades Presents” series and will be identified by black covers
    • CoS’s emphasis is upon the steel of sword and sorcery – the brawn and brain of one triumphing over the brawn and brain (and perhaps a little evil magic) of another
    • RBE will be re-releasing the previous three titles in the series
      • Reluctant Hero
      • Assassins
      • Demons
    • RBE intends to expand these titles by increasing word counts to the 90-100k range
      • Original authors have the right of first inclusion and are hereby invited to rejoin the new titles
      • Once these authors have informed RBE of their interest the remaining word count will be filled through open submission to each title
      • Each title will receive new RBE cover art
    • RBE will then be continuing the CoS series with future new titles released every 1 to 2 years
    • Submissions are NOT open at this time – There is NO timetable established yet – this is just an advance announcement for those interested in writing tales for such anthologies
  • The core “Rogue Blades Presents” burgundy anthologies are annuals
  • These titles will typically contain 100-150k words and will usually be released on or about June 1st of each year
  • Each theme will be first announced only by advertisement in the previous anthology, allowing buyers and readers advance time to craft ideal stories for immediate submission once submissions are opened – typically several months later

And that’s that. For now.

ENJOY!

About The Author

Jason
Jason M. Waltz is the founder and sole operator of RBE. A passion for heroic adventure fantasy drove him from comfortably reading it to sometimes writing it to occasionally reviewing it to carefully editing it to enthusiastically publishing it. Jason believes two things about the state of genre fiction: there will soon be a resurgence in the popularity of short fiction and in the popularity of heroic fantasy adventure, to include Sword & Sorcery. Jason plans for RBE to be a driving force in both.

You’re going to run out of “R” words for those anthologies. Let’s see what we can come up with that’s appropriate …
    Ruin
Wrath (yeah, yeah, I know, but it’s got the “R” sound)
    Ring
    Riposte

    Eh, I’ll think of others.

  2. Jason says:

Actually, I’ve had more difficulty avoiding repeated acronyms. I’m good for the next several years, though. There’s always the option of going with literal sequels, like RotB II.

  3. Dave Fortier says:

    Here are some ideas…
Riposte of the Swashbuckler – stories of the privateer S&S
Range of the Bow – Archer related S&S
    Rake of the Beastmen – non-human S&S

  4. Jason says:

You are very, very close on one of those, Dave ;)

  5. Jeff Draper says:

    Randi of the Nymphs?
    Rampage of the Lemmings?
    Rapiers of the Witless?
    Revenants of the Underworld?
    Restablishment of the Antidisestablishmentarians?

  6. Daniel R. Robichaud says:

Congrats on picking up the Clash of Steel series! There were some great S&S stories in there.

  7. Erin says:

I have a story in the original COS: Assassins, and I’m curious what the timeframe is for the re-release of that. (Yes, I want to be included in the re-release!)

    • Jason says:

Hi Erin – thanks for dropping by. I anticipate (the RBE version) Assassins: A Clash of Steel Anthology to be a late 2010 release. In time for Christmas for sure, but other than that I cannot say, as my entire timetable has been shifted by life’s events. I will keep your email and keep you informed.

  8. Bill Ward says:

Or just start a new ‘trilogy’ of titles with similar names — otherwise, you might stray into the realm of self parody. Why limit yourself?

Good to know you’ve got so much planned out, looking forward to all of it.
